and I'm not saying there aren't better platforms than the MR2, just that is is NOT a bad platform in my opinion as TriniTT states in his opinion. It's also not perfect like most track cars (IC cooling being one issue), but is certainly not a bad platform. Production #'s that I could find show Toyota imported 33,311 MkII MR2s to the US AND Canada. By comparison, Mazda has SOLD 347,722 Miatas in the US alone. I had to look for over 2 years and fly to Chicago to get the specific model MR2 I wanted; of which there are less than 30 in the US ('93 hardtop turbo). The people I do know who auto-x and race MR2s are pretty competitive, even with the tough classing for the MR2.
